Pat and Mick

from Wikipedia we can read something about them: Pat and Mick were a British vocal duo consisting of popular radio personalities Pat Sharp and Mick Brown. The royalties from their record sales were donated to Capital FM's Help A London Child charity.

The pair were often portrayed as unintelligent in media coverage, but this served to boost record sales, providing money for the charity in the process.

With their last single released in 1993, and Pat Sharp no longer at Capital Radio, they have no immediate plans to collaborate on future charity singles.

Minogue performs in Istanbul

ISTANBUL – Turkish Daily News: A long-awaited performance by world-renowned petite star Kylie Minogue will take place in Istanbul this evening. Minogue, who was chosen as the Best International Female Artist at this year's Brit Awards, will take the stage in Turkey for the first time.
...
Minogue rose to prominence during the late 1980s through her role in the Australian television soap opera "Neighbours," before commencing a career as a pop artist in 1987. After signing a contract with the British songwriters and producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman in 1988, she achieved a string of international hit records.

The Queen and Her Crayons: An Interview With Donna Summer

Donna Summer doesn’t like boxes: “I’ve been out of the box my whole entire career and I’m staying out of the box,” she declares. It’s a fortnight before the release of Crayons, an auspicious occasion considering Summer’s last studio album was released 17 years ago. “People didn’t know what to do with me when I first came out. There was no category for dance.” There is no category for Crayons either: shades of rock, reggae, samba, pop, and dance color twelve new songs that were written ... Summer changed course in the 1980s, working with a variety of producers that included Quincy Jones, Michael Omartian, and Stock/Aitken/Waterman...

I bought this song at the record shop in 1996 because I see the label PWL, but I saw it wasn't a S.A.W. production and I never liked this song, it's usual dance, far away from Boy Krazy "That's What Love Can Do" or other Stock, Aitken, Waterman productions.

Mike Stock at the time was working with Matt Aitken with their Love This label, they produced this song and it didn't reach high chart positions on Uk but I like it very much because it was the S.A.W. style production!

(Ain't Nobody Loves You) Like I Do

we can read from Wikipedia:

"(Ain't Nobody Loves You) Like I Do" is a single by American singer La Toya Jackson. The song is taken from her fifth album, La Toya. It is one of only four songs by Jackson to have an accompanying music video.

The single was released in 1987 throughout Europe, excluding the United Kingdom. Despite being produced by the European trio Stock Aitken Waterman, who were big hit-producers at the time, the single failed to chart. The B-side of the single, "(Tell Me) She Means Nothing To You At All", was released as its own single in France. The 12" singles include a longer version of the song.

However, the single did fairly well on the German DJ Charts. It debuted at No. 17 and stayed on the charts for several months. She also performed the song live on German prime time television "Die Verflixte Sieben" (with Rudi Carrell). The music video for the single was given little airplay and was never released on video or DVD. It didn't surface on the internet until March of 2007.

Rick Astley reveals: I still get a tingle from singing

His face used to adorn many a teenage girl’s bedroom, but these days – as Emma Pinch discovers – Rick Astley prefers to live life anonymously

IT’S a sunny day and a 42-year-old bloke is taking a leisurely stroll down a south west London high street, toying with the idea of popping into Waterstones.

He doesn’t attract a single backward glance.

And that’s surprising because, not too long ago, Rick Astley’s smiley face, with its shock of stiff auburn hair, was splashed almost weekly across the centrefold of Smash Hits, as instantly recognisable as bubble-permed Stock Aitken and Waterman stablemate Kylie Minogue...

Deuce - No Surrender

From Mike Stock Forum:

QUOTE (Doodvid @ Oct 23 2008, 11:27 PM) *
Hey Mike - how exciting this all is!

Just a quick question regarding the work you did with Deuce (my favourite pop band) on 'No Surrender' - was there ever any thought put into follow-up material (potential album/b-sides etc?) and what was the process regarding the "sound" of the track - much as I love it, it's very dissimilar to the eurodance style of their earlier material with Harding/Curnow and didn't seem to sit easily with the image of the group.

Thanks in advance!

David

Mike reply:

Hi David,
Only the one track made with Deuce, I'm afraid.
After the problems with the release of 'No Surrender' the decision by their manager Tom watkins, was to move on.
The style of the music does not sound out of date for now, perhaps. Maybe at the time it was a little adventurous. At least Matt and I were trying to make them sound a bit different from what had gone before. The image of a band is normally a moveable feast anyway. I don't know in hindsight, if we'd have done things differently.
Mike.

She speaks about S.A.W.

Sybil - When I'm Good And Ready (TOTP)

Here the link to the video.

Sybil - Walk On By

Sybil (born Sybil Lynch June 2, 1964, New Jersey) is an American R&B/pop singer, who has been recording since 1986. She is best known for her covers of Dionne Warwick's hits "Don't Make Me Over" and "Walk On By", which were released in 1989 and 1990 respectively. They were both Top 20 successes on the UK Singles Chart with the latter being the highest charting position for this Burt Bacharach/Hal David classic (No. 6), narrowly beating Gabrielle's version which made No. 7 in 1997. However, it was when she signed with the UK songwriters/record producers Stock Aitken Waterman, that Sybil had the biggest success, and was particularly popular in the UK. She had two huge Top 5 smashes in 1993 - the first a version of "The Love I Lost", originally a No. 21 hit for Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, made No. 3 and the second, "When I'm Good And Ready," an original song penned by Mike Stock and Pete Waterman reached No. 5. Her most successful album was also released that year; Good n Ready made No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart. The same year, her U.S. album Doin' It Now was released by Next Plateau, which was distributed PolyGram Records. Most of Sybil's hits have been covers of standards, and her career gradually evolved from dance towards soul/pop. Her last single(s) to date were released in 2006. In 2005, she appeared in the ITV singing contest Hit Me, Baby, One More Time. Sybil had been working in [[Miami, Florida]. One of her most current bodies of work are the tracks "Don't Give Up" and "It's Too Late," which were released by Code Red Recordings. According to our sources there are no further projects lined up with Code Red Recordings. Look for new Sybil material to come in 2008, as she has teamed up with Ultra Naté and a plethora of other dynamic producers, deejays, singers, and songwriters on the Deep Sugar Music label. Sybil is currently in the studio (Baltimore, MD; New York, NY; and around the UK)] recording with some of house, dance, pop, and soul musics premier veterans. REVIEW: HERE AND NOW TOUR, TRENT FM ARENA

As the acts got bigger, the sets grew longer. Bananarama managed nine songs in thirty-five minutes, spanning seven of their most successful hit- making years. With founder member Siobhan and substitute member Jacquie long gone, Keren and Sara have been performing as a duo since the early 1990s, cranking out their roster of camp classics with a delightful disregard for stage-school slickness (they still have trouble remembering the set list) and sophisticated vocal technique (you'll still search in vain for a harmony line)....

And finally, and to a hero's welcome: Rick Astley, making his debut on the nostalgia circuit, and cheerfully admitting to finding the whole experience overwhelming and bizarre. Now re-established in the nation's affections thanks to an Internet phenomenon known as "rickrolling", Astley surfed a tide of goodwill from the crowd, which was almost enough to cover his lack of memorable hit singles. (Hands up, who can name more than three of them?) Admittedly, it all got a bit Cruise Ship during his syrupy cover of When I Fall In Love, and even Rick himself seemed less than enamoured of some of the later Stock Aitken Waterman hits (he could barely wait to get to the end of the frankly rubbish Take Me To Your Heart, exclaiming "will this madness never end?" during the final chorus). ...

I believe in me - Kylie speaks about S.A.W.

... "There was a period, about two years into working with Stock, Aitken and Waterman, when I was trying to fight my way out, find my own way, experiment with different ways of recording and start writing. But now, 20 years later, I am absolutely full of admiration and respect for what they do and I think the way that I came into the music industry -- which was pretty much being shown and told, 'this is what you do, ok now go and do it' was a good lesson.

"It was like a pop industry master class just to be in their company and absorbing the way they work. I am so grateful for that." ...

Sophie Lawrence - Love's Unkind

I always liked this song, it was a pure PWL sound, it was produced by Pete Hammond and Simon Cowell.

We can read from Wikipedia: Sophie initially quit her role in EastEnders to launch herself as a pop star. She enjoyed minor chart success in 1991 when her cover of Donna Summer's 1977 classic hit Love's Unkind (produced by Pete Hammond and Simon Cowell) reached number 21 in the UK singles chart. A further nine songs were recorded for an album but the project was shelved after she went on to work with the successful pop writers and producers, Stock Aitken and Waterman, recording a brand new follow-up single entitled Secrets, a track taken from Kylie Minogue's 'Rhythm Of Love album. However, the single was withdrawn before its release, her pop career stalled and she returned to acting.

Here you can listen to the song:

Never gonna give him up

Published Date: 05 May 2008 By CLAIRE BLACK: He may have retreated from the limelight at the height of his fame, but we have never forgotten the 80s' pop phenomenon that was Rick Astley. CLAIRE BLACK asks what it was that persuaded him to come out of retirement and go on tour RICK ASTLEY, Stock, Aitken & Waterman's only talented act. Oh keep your hair on, Big Fun were amazing, but you know what I mean. Rick Astley stood out back in 1987 and not just because of the height of his quiff. He stood out because he could sing. And that, in the era of Milli Vanilli and Jason Donovan, was a rarity.

And, of course, the other thing about Rick Astley that set him apart is that, despite his debut single being No 1 in 16 countries, clocking up record sales of 19 million and amassing a horde of squealing fans that Bros could only dream about, at the height of his powers, aged only 26, he left it all behind.

And now he's back...

'Cause we're going to our favourite spot
Till the morning we're gonna rock
Boy you rock me up (yeah)

My baby
Doesn't matter what's going on
Or who's around us
All I see is you
Right now they're playing our song
Dance floor is ours
All I see is you
The DJ's got me feelin' like I did
When I first met you
And there's nothing that can break us apart
In two
'Cause all I see is you

I get lost in time
When I'm lookin' in your eyes
And we're body to body
I don't want you to rush
'Cause you're feeling like heaven to me
Follow the rhythm
And keep it real close
In the dark everything goes
Love it better when you touch (don't stop)
Baby 'cause we've just begun

Have to make sure I'm looking hot
'Cause we're going to our favourite spot
Till the morning we're gonna rock
Boy you rock me up (yeah)

My baby
Doesn't matter what's going on
Or who's around us
All I see is you
Right now they're playing our song
Dance floor is ours
All I see is you
The DJ's got me feelin' like I did
When I first met you
And there's nothing that can break us apart
In two
'Cause all I see is you

Oh, oh, oh
Please don't let me go oh, oh
My love for you's growing
More and more and more
As we move across the floor, oh, oh
'Cause all I see is you
'Cause all I see is you
DJ spin my record again

My baby
Doesn't matter what's going on
Or who's around us
All I see is you
Right now they're playing our song
Dance floor is ours
All I see is you
The DJ's got me feelin' like I did
When I first met you
And there's nothing that can break us apart
In two
'Cause all I see is you

My baby
Doesn't matter what's going on
Or who's around us
All I see is you
Right now they're playing our song
Dance floor is ours
All I see is you
The DJ's got me feelin' like I did
When I first met you
And there's nothing that can break us apart
In two
'Cause all I see is you

I loved this song included in Donna's album "Another Place and Time", produced by S.A.W. but I didn't know this was a single, a wonderful version!
