Pete Waterman and The X Factor

Pete Waterman, one-third of the pop pap factory Stock Aitken Waterman, which gave us Kylie, Sonia and Bananarama, complained last week that The X Factor lacks discernable personalities. "The X Factor is a freak show," he said. "If you're a good singer with a happy home life, you won't get past the first audition. If you've got one leg, an ailing spouse and are living on a sink estate, you've hit the jackpot." [read the article]

STEPS TO THE STARS - Say You'll Be Mine

STEPS - Here And Now - (The Saturday Show)

“Latte is to coffee what Stock, Aitken and Waterman is to music,”

“Latte is to coffee what Stock, Aitken and Waterman is to music,” says Luciano Franchi, managing director of Caffè Vergnano 1882, a chain of three London coffee shops that has won awards for its quality. “A grown-up should not be drinking that much milk. Unless you understand the ratios of coffee you will never get the product as it should be — a 2oz cup for an espresso, 4oz cup for a cappuccino.” [read the coffee article]

X Factor winner will be a nobody in 10 years time ...

Pete Waterman has much in common with his "best mate" Simon Cowell -- they're both music moguls who brought TV talent shows to the masses. [read the article]

2 Brave - Stop That Girl (TV-Performance)

This was norwegian pop music from the late 80's. It wasn't a Stock, Aitken & Waterman production, but I liked it very much. I think it's a wonderful song, probably it could be an evergreen.

‘rubbish’ says Waterman

But Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman poured scorn on the duo saying they were a forgettable flash in the pan destined to soon be forgotten.

As one third of production trio Stock, Aitken and Waterman, the pop guru helped launch the careers of Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley and Jason Donovan- hardly the least manufactured pop stars on the planet.

A new Stock, Aitken & Waterman production?

You can read it on Liverpool Echo:

Recording a music video - yesterday I did a video in Manchester for a song called Beautiful Dangerous People by a guy called Ellis. It’s being produced by Stock Aitken & Waterman and the choreographer for the day was Cheryl Cole’s, Beth Honan. It will be released after Christmas and the video is very James Bond - we were dressed as robots in silver catsuits and silver over-the-knee boots and it looked fantastic!

But... it's false! On Hit Factory Forum you can read about this topic. I don't like this new song and on Hit Factory Forum some of us didn't think it was a Stock, Aitken & Waterman production.

Mike Stock replies:

Hi Pete,
No, I know nothing about this stuff. It feels like someone trying to stir up a bit of media interest. I don't know if using our name really will help him, but I suppose its worth a try!
Kind regards, Mike.

STEPS - STEPS REUNION OFF

I missed this news about two years ago (2007): "Former STEPS singer IAN 'H' WATKINS has scuppered plans for a reunion of the British pop group, because he has just landed the lead role in a GBP1 million ($1.95 million) London production of musical FAME. Watkins - who was due to reunite with old bandmates FAYE TOZER, LISA SCOTT-LEE, LEE LATCHFORD-EVANS and CLAIRE RICHARDS for a comeback tour later this year (07) - has become hot property in the theatre world after winning the role of NICK in the West End play. A source says, "Ian's had too many theatre offers. The others were disappointed but understand."

but there's also this news (2009): Steps have revealed that they are likely to reform for a reunion tour in the future.

Band member Lee Latchford-Evans confirmed that the group had been approached to do a string of live shows but insisted that there were no immediate plans to get back together.

"We all had a fabulous time in Steps and the success we had all over the world was amazing," Music-News quotes him as saying.

"There have been some offers put to us to get back together and do a tour but it isn't the right time right now.

"We are all still friends and get along fine so a reunion is something I don't rule out. I just can't see it happening right now."

Vanessa Amorosi

She wasn't produced by Stock, Aitken & Waterman. She's Vanessa Amorosi and these are wonderful pop songs I like and prefer. Her voice is so powerful!

You can read something about her using Wikipedia: in 1999, Amorosi released her debut single "Have a Look" which became a Top 20 hit. Second single "Absolutely Everybody", an anthemic dance song, reached the Top 10 and became the longest charting Australian single by an Australian female artist[4]. It remained in the ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart for over six months after its release[5]. "Absolutely Everybody" was released internationally and reached the Top 10 in many European countries including the United Kingdom and Germany where it received a gold certification. Amorosi performed at many large events such as the NRL Grand Final, the opening of the Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island and the new millennium on "New Year's Eve" at Darling Harbour.

In 2000 two more singles "Shine" and "The Power" became major Australian hits, and her album The Power reached number one on the Australian album charts. Amorosi received six ARIA nominations[6] in the year 2000 awards and The Power was nominated[7] for "Best Female Artist" and "Best Pop Release" in the ARIA Music Awards of 2001. Her largest audience came in September 2000 with performances at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and at the Paralympic Games. At the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics she sang the Olympic song titled "Heroes Live Forever". Amorosi won the APRA Award[8] in 2001 for "Most Played Song" on Australian Radio with "Shine" and received international acclaim in Germany where she won "Best International Newcomer"[9] at the 2001 VIVA Comet Awards. Later that year she also made a special appearance at the Goodwill Games Opening and Closing ceremonies in Brisbane. In 2001 she performed at the AFL Grand Final.

Bananarama - Viva Album Review

What with new girl bands on the block the Dolly Rockers, Paradiso Girls and Girls Can’t Catch plus the return of the Sugababes and Saturdays, we forgot to mention the comeback of one of the biggest girl groups with one of the best band names ever, the grandmothers of them all – Bananarama....

...Elsewhere, the very reason why so many loved Bananarama in the first place is lost – a sense of artless fun, from their shambolic style and public appearances back in their 80s beginnings through the later Stock Aitken Waterman frivolity to their even-now hilarious interviews... Donna Summer’s voice is key to long career

...
Ever since Summer and producers Moroder and Bellotte hooked up for the foundational disco hits “Love to Love You Baby” and “I Feel Love,” Summer’s voice has been the go-to for producers ranging from Quincy Jones to the team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, and Summer says, “I think part of that is the mystique of being one of the founding mothers of the genre, and they kind of want to have that in their resumé. I understand that; it’s a good thing.”...

Spagna Medley 1987 Festivalbar

She's Ivana Spagna, my favourite italian singer. She was never produced by Stock, Aitken & Waterman, she wrote these songs with her brother (Theo) and the italian producer Larry Pignagnoli. This video deserves to be seen, it proposes three beautiful songs, "Dedicated to the moon", "Call Me" and "Dance, Dance, Dance". She won in 1987 an italian summer show called "Festivalbar 1987" with these three songs and then Spagna - Call Me (1987) - Azzurro 1987, second single by Spagna, the most famous of her career in English. Hit over all Europe, second position even in UK charts!

Tracy Spencer - I Feel For You (1988)

I liked very much this single. It isn't a Stock, Aitken & Waterman production but Italo Disco from 1988. It was arranged by M. Bonsanto & M. Sabiu, produced by Claudio Cecchetto. B-Side of Her final single "Two To tango Too" (CBS Dischi S.p.A. 1988, Italy)
