Kakko performs "We Should be Dancing" on Motormouth

Kakko From Wikipedia: the free encyclopedia is one of the pseudonyms of Yamagata Kakuko (former name Suzuki Kakuko), a Japanese actress, TV presenter and former pop singer. Yamagata was born September 23, 1969 in Osaka, Japan. Under the name "Kakko", she was on the roster of Stock Aitken Waterman but met with little success in the UK charts.

Yamagata attended an American school in Kobe and aged 17 was spotted by a scout from CBS records. She moved to the UK to attend a music school in London before coming to the attention of producers Stock Aitken and Waterman.

Her first single, the Stock/Aitken/Waterman penned "We Should Be Dancing", was released in February 1990 reaching number 101 in the UK charts, while her second release, "What Kind Of Fool" (written by Harding/Curnow/Clift), didn't manage to get a chart rating.

She returned to Japan in 1991 and commenced working under the stage-name Suzuki Anju. She has become a popular actress in TV dramas and features in many commercials.

Kakko, "What Kind of Fool" live (ahem) performance

Kakko "What Kind of Fool" Interview

Review from by Darian:
Released in 1990, this sparkling PWL production written and produced by Phil Harding and Ian Curnow/Clift could have passed for a song written and produced by Stock Aitken & Waterman. The 12 inch mix has all the elements of SAW with the vocal samples and various instruments building toward the chorus music. Shame it is a short 6 minutes or so but well worth hunting down. The B-side "I Pledge You My Heart" is nice as well.

Boy Krazy - That's What Love can Do

Their signature Pop song That's What Love Can Do, created by British music mega producers Stock Aitken Waterman and recorded in 1991, bubbled under for two years before getting significant airplay. Boy Krazy featured female singers Kimberly Blake, Josselyne Jones (Josselyne Herman-Saccio), Johnna Lee Cummings, and Ruth Ann Roberts (a former Miss Junior America). A fifth member named Renee Veneziale left shortly after "That's What Love Can Do" was first released, in 1991.

" X "

Kylie Minogue (EMI)

Grade: A

It’s puzzling how Kylie Minogue’s iconic stature in Europe and her native Australia hasn’t translated into much in the way of U.S. success.

And the mystery deepens if her new “X” doesn’t catch on in America, because a good chunk of the release sounds like a facsimile of the best recent music from Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado, Britney Spears and numerous others active on U.S. charts. ...

Pete Waterman: I don't watch 'The X Factor'

This isn't a news but I liked to post it here, because I like this article.

Pete Waterman – who was dubbed Slaughterman for his frank verdicts on 'Pop Idol' – tells Neil Tweedie he is appalled by the excesses of today's TV talent shows

Unlike a good proportion of the British population, Pete Waterman doesn't watch The X Factor, the hit ITV show in which thousands of people, talented and talentless, hopeful and hopeless, vie for the chance of fame, fortune and a recording contract.

Harmony rules: Pete Waterman has patched things up with former colleagues

But he can guess what it's like, having been a judge on the show's precursor, Pop Idol.

"I've never seen it, but the public watch The X Factor in big numbers," he acknowledges, sitting back in his recording studio on the South Bank in London. "A young lad who works for me watches it, though. He calls it 'car-crash television'.

"He loves car-crash television. The bigger the crash, the better. The truth is that when you get a big crash on a motorway people slow down to have a look. People see the sight of blood and they love it. The contestants are the modern-day equivalent of the Christians being thrown to the lions." ... ... ...
