No. 14: The Internet Is Never Gonna Give Rick Astley Up

Oh, sure, the phenomenon of "rickrolling"—in which an unsuspecting Web browser is led to an online rip of Rick Astley's Stock/Aitken/Waterman-penned hit "Never Gonna Give You Up," for the sole purpose of bringing lulz—originated in 2007. But it wasn't until 2008 that shocking people with a little bit of gleaming, synth-drum-laden blue-eyed soul really took on a life of its own outside of the Internet's echo chambers...

Christmas Remix - She's In Love With You

The Christmas dance remix of the track by SO OUT THERE Feat. Spencer.

You can get this mix as a FREE Mp3 download on the website above.

You also can grab the Christmas Ringtone too!

Boys & girls - Mandy Smith

Do you remember this nice video? "Boys And Girls" it's the title. Here are the credits, it wasn't a S.A.W. production, but it was recorded in PWL Studios 1 & 2.

Engineer - Jamie Bromfield
Mixed By - Mixmaster Pete Hammond
Producer, Keyboards, Drums - Daize Washbourn
Programmed by Ian Curnow

Don't Turn Your Back

This isn't a S.A.W. production, but it's really similar to their productions! It's written by Burni Adams, John O'Hara by Legend Music Group Ltd. (1988). I think they used A LINN as drums and a lot of keyboards like the typical S.A.W. style!

Same Difference ‘Pop’ (BMG) out now in uk

from Channel4.com:

Same Difference ‘Pop’ (BMG)
For anyone who wanted a fourth Steps album or, more accurately, a second H&Claire album. We feel a bit funny for even listening to it, but it’s really not too bad and contains the third best version of the best song Stock Aitken & Waterman ever wrote.

Jason Donovan heads to old-time classics for new album

...In 1989, his album Ten Good Reasons – featuring the unforgettable bubblegum fizzer Too Many Broken Hearts – was the highest-selling record in the UK, a staggering feat that placed Donovan in the realms of The Beatles and ABBA.

That same year, he broke up with Kylie Minogue, the woman he claimed in last year's autobiography, Between the Lines: My Story Uncut, was "the one – my first true love". Seeing pictures of Minogue on the arm of Michael Hutchence, he says, was "like salt rubbed into my wounds"....

The former Neighbours star – who is back with his first album in 20 years – told Entertainmentwise exclusively that Kylie definitely owes him one after all these years...

Jason's album Let It Be Me is released on November 10 and the single Dreamboats & Petticoats is out today...

Alphabeat, "Boyfriend" (Pete Hammond Remix)

Alphabeat get a PWL makeover...

Interesting news about Alphabeat's next single 'Boyfriend'. Pete Hammond, the producer and 'mixmaster' who had a hand in almost every Stock, Aitken & Waterman track on the face of the planet, has turned in his own remix of the track - and it's great.

The new version an affectionate and (we think) really brilliant mix which as well as being totally authentic-sounding (Pete used the same equipment he used when he was at PWL, and even roped in the old session guitar player who worked on songs by Kylie 'et al') is the perfect match for a band who've already referenced pivotal 80s tracks like 'Footloose' and 'The Safety Dance'. Jason Donovan is in the Toon this weekend, as Gordon Barr reports

FORGET the Great North Run this weekend, scores of people will be getting hot under the collar for a very different reason....

Having recently appeared on The Dark Side of Fame with Piers Morgan, talking about his relationship with Kylie Minogue, Jason has been catapulted back into the spotlight. This is a rare chance to enjoy an original pop idol of the 80s and 90s, in anticipation of the release of his new single, and his first new album in 15 years, Let It Be Me.

“The aim is ‘all the hits and more’, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the past,” says Jason. “I think the one thing with Stock Aitken Waterman was they had great pop songs.”

X Factor dad denies record deal rumours

... Her father, Adrian White, aged 50, said: “There have been stories saying Laura had had a recording contract with Matt Aitken from Stock, Aitken, and Waterman and that she had been mentored by him and had recorded two singles that had subsequently flopped.

“It was nothing on the scale that has been portrayed at all.

“Laura did make three visits to Matt’s studio in Buckinghamshire, when she was 16 or 17, working on an old cover from the 1960s.”

Before the single was recorded, Matt was approached by his two previous partners with an offer to collaborate with them again...

The Rick Astley Debate

Does he deserve his MTV EMA nomination or has Rickrolling gone too far?

Rick Astley is up for Best Act Ever at the MTV Europe Music Awards this November and it’s certainly causing a lot of debate in offices around the country...

Rick warned us he'd never say goodbye

The news that naff Eighties crooner Rick Astley is somehow in the running for Best Act Ever at the MTV Europe awards next month is both funny and mysterious. Why Rick? Where has he been all these years?

Britney, U2 and Green Day are on the shortlist with a man whose last big hit was 17 years ago. He was a proper star once, though, thanks to producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman: his first single, "Never Gonna Give You Up" got to No1 here and in the States back in 1987. Six years later, aged just 27, Astley retired. The big quiff and deep voice that didn't fit his boyish face were gone....

Pete Waterman: Cutting a different track

Source: Exec Digital UK: Better known as a pop music impresario, Pete Waterman speaks to Exec about skills shortages, a life-changing brush with the law, and his lifelong passion – British railways

Having introduced the world to Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Rick Astley, Steps and a number of other pop music acts who seemed to specialise in infernally catchy (and hugely successful) ditties – and created a multi-million pound empire along the way – there can be no doubting Pete Waterman’s business ability. His story could have been very different, were it not for a life-changing episode at the age of 14. He was interested in railways... [the full articole is here]

Lorella Cuccarini - Magic 1989: she's an italian dancer, singer and tv presenter, she wasn't produced by Stock, Aitken, Waterman but this song called "Magic" has a sound very similar to S.A.W. productions and here she is!

Rick Astley interview

We’re never gonna give him up: The real Rick Astley takes Manila by storm
By Paul John Caña, Contributor

Almost two decades after he hung up that infamous overcoat and retired those patented dance moves, Rick Astley—that 1980s pop sensation with the big voice and even bigger hair—is back. But before diehard addicts (especially fellow 1980s local icon Roderick Paulate) start hyperventilating in excitement, Rick was in town for a one night only show at the Araneta Coliseum sponsored by clothing brand Mossimo. For a few days last week...

Saving trains will stop teenagers going off the rails, says former locomotive man Pete Waterman

In 2004 I presented a television series called Trains, about the history and development of the railways. I still get letters from mothers about it, telling me their children watch it again and again.

Yet the children who loved my documentary, or who adored Thomas when they were five or six, have no interest in the industry by the time they leave school. And that means we have a problem.

The average age of the engineers working for my train maintenance company, London and North Western Railway, is 56. We need to recruit another 70 engineers but we just can't find them.

The situation is only going to get worse as our current crop of railway engineers - the average age at Network Rail is 54 - approaches retirement because we are faced with a number of what MPs like to call 'challenges'....

Today's music business is selfish and greedy

One thing I find frightening about the modern music business is how it's all about money now. These kids, ooh, they have got it sussed. There's no room to see if anything happens by chance.

One of my favourite songs of recent years was Bad Day by Daniel Powter. Brilliant song. And then I turn the telly on, it's on a fucking deodorant ad! What are you doing?! And people go, "well, he got paid £200,000". Hang on a minute - you write a song and all you care about is the money?

This may surprise people, but I'm totally against that. You've never heard a Stock Aitken and Waterman song on an advert. I've been offered millions of pounds for our songs to be on adverts, but absolutely not....

Donna Summer: It's good to be the queen

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Donna Summer's reign as the "Queen of Disco" may have begun in the 1970s -- more than 30 years ago -- but that doesn't mean she's slowed down in the 21st century.

With a new album, "Crayons," just out, and a tour coming up, Summer has re-entered the limelight as if she'd never left.

The woman known for "Love to Love You Baby," "Bad Girls" and "She Works Hard for the Money" appeared on the finale of "American Idol" and performed some of her greatest hits with the show's leading female singers. She also did a short duet with third-place Syesha Mercado.

The "Queen of Disco," now 59, sat down with CNN to talk about her upcoming tour, her performance on "Idol" and her status as a "gwammy." The following is an edited version of the interview.

CNN: Let's start with "American Idol." ... How did all that come about?

Donna Summer: Well, you know, I did the show about two or three years ago, the year Fantasia won. And they've been asking me to come back. And so this year it worked out that my album was coming out and ... they wanted to, uh, have a lot of surprises in the last show and so [the producers called and asked], "Do you wanna do the show?" And I'm like HELLO! Of course! (laughs) [It has] like the most high viewership in the world! So I said I'd do it.

CNN: How much fun was that, to see ... [the contestants] singing your famous tunes? ...

'Tragedy! I rarely cook in my posh kitchen!'

She now shares it with her fiancé, electrician Reece Hill, 40.

They’re currently adding two more bedrooms and another bathroom.

She says: “When I bought this place I wanted a big kitchen and dining area, so the builder knocked down walls and I helped us get a good deal at Magnet on the beech units.

"I think we spent about £6,000 on the kitchen, which is quite good value...

Pop princess collects royal honour

Kylie Minogue has already been crowned the princess of pop, now she has been honoured for a "lifetime of music making" with a prestigious OBE from Prince Charles...

...Her OBE comes after she collected France's highest cultural honour, the Order of Arts and Letters, in May this year and a Centenary Medal from Australia's governor general for "outstanding contribution to the music industry" in 2003.

Also sitting on her trophy shelf are a handful of Brit Awards, a Grammy, and several ARIAs and Logies.

Dubbed the "singing budgie" early in her career, Minogue shot to the top of the Australian music charts in 1987 with her single Locomotion.

Soon after she moved to London, where she quickly found fame and fortune by teaming up with hit producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman...

Kylie Minogue at the Belfast Odysey Arena - the Sunday Times review

The word on the web — from bloggers who have been comparing notes since the KylieX2008 tour kicked off in Paris in May — was that this show was, by her extravagant standards, a muted affair. The costumes, the choreography, even her singing, were all felt to be a little below par. Maybe the citizens of Belfast, the first stop on Kylie’s UK tour, don’t set much store by online gossip; or perhaps not having seen the recent Showgirl and Fever tours, or indeed witnessed any live headline performance by Kylie Minogue in their city since 1990, they were simply delighted to welcome her back. Either way, the 12,000 mainly female fans packed into the Odyssey Arena last Sunday were having such a raucously good time that, towards the end of her 2½-hour show, Minogue had to ask them to “calm down” to make way for a rare rendition of one of her older, more reflective numbers, Step Back in Time...

Kylie OBE breaks protocol by shaking hands with Prince Charles

FOR most, it's a polite handshake, a curtsey and a 'how do you do?' lasting a few seconds.

When you're Kylie Minogue, things are different. As she collected her OBE from Prince Charles yesterday in the imposing surroundings of the ballroom at Buckingham Palace, the normal rules were forgotten...

They wrote on their site: "
We went to record one of the tracks with Mike Stock and Pete Waterman and it was legendary. We went to the recording studio with Mike (who is one of the masterminds behind Kylie Minogue and loads of other 80's music!) to record one of the songs (we cant tell you the name of the track, you will just have to buy the album to find out! hint hint). We went to his house which was in the middle of the countryside and it was such an amazing day. Donna Summer's comeback fails to storm the dancefloor

I didn't buy her album yet, but I love the song "Stamp Your Feet". The video is nice but poor. Here's a news by Metro Uk:

She's the nightlife diva supreme, famed for hi-NRG rudeness and more razzle-dazzle than a club full of glitter balls - so there's solid reason to hope that Donna Summer's first studio album in 17 years should be a stormer...

...Summer has exhibited plenty of eccentric turns over her career but at best she's caused unforgettable sparks with benchmark producers and songwriters, whether it's Giorgio Moroder or Stock/Aitken/Waterman...

Pick of the week: Kylie Minogue

It’s one of the laws of pop music that nobody is allowed to say a bad word about Kylie Minogue. She is an icon of our times: the girl we grew up with on Neighbours and the pop star who defied the odds to sign a contract with Stock, Aitken & Waterman and live to tell the tale...

Stamp Your Feet- Donna Summer on David Letterman (2008)

A new Album after 17 years! Today Show Interview

CD Review: Donna Summer

Call it a roller-coaster career: Few artists have risen to such great heights then dropped so tremendously as dance diva Donna Summer. In the late 1970s she was producing topnotch, genre-defining disco such as 1977's opus "I Feel Love" in Munich with music production legends Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder. But by 2000 she'd been reduced to singing the theme from that Pokemon movie. Ouch. Between that, she's released some fairly dodgy pop (the bloodcurdling "She Works Hard for the Money"), some catchy fluff (the Stock-Aitken-Waterman gem "This Time I Know It's for Real") and rare flashes of brilliance ("State of Independence"). A most disjointed career, to say the least.

Eighties music heart-throb Rick Astley revealed...
